Games for UAE National Day (Eid Al Etihad) gatherings

Eid Al Etihad on 2 December is a long weekend of flags, fireworks, family visits and late majlis nights. Games bring all ages together, and online games bring in the people who can’t make it. Here are our favourites for the National Day weekend.

For the family majlis

• Baloot: the classic. Four players, two teams, endless commentary from the people watching.
• Jakaro: a team race with marbles and cards that the whole room ends up shouting about.

For the kids

• Ludo: simple rules, big laughs, 2 to 4 players. Pass one phone around if there are not enough devices.
• ONO: a fast colour card game; one round takes a few minutes.

For friends in another emirate or abroad

Not everyone can travel for the holiday. Open a Majlis voice room, share the link in the group, and play together from Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Al Ain or anywhere in the world.

For the road trip
